In the midst of the COVID crisis and racial tensions in our country, the NAPSE leadership felt called upon to expand our reach and resources. There are so many intersectionalities between disability and race, socio-economic status, and other minority statuses. We needed to think bigger. To not be a part of addressing underlying inequities is just putting a bandage on a chronic condition.

As we broadened our lens, we also took a look at how we represent ourselves to the world. Our old logo, a key, was fine---but the idea of opening doors and needing a key to do so was becoming offensive. We want to kick down doors and throw away keys. So we looked to the past for wisdom.
